  • This thermal fluid has low viscosity for excellent heat transfer efficiency

  • Marlotherm® LH is a benzyl aromatic with excellent thermal stability

Marlotherm® LH operating temperature

  • Marlotherm® LH is recommended for use in the temperature range from -30°C (-22°F) to 280°C (536°F)

  • This heat transfer fluid can also be used intermittently at film temperatures as high as 380°C and used in pressurised systems up to 360°C

  • Marlotherm® LH has a high auto-ignition temperature of 450°C (842°F)

  • This heat transfer fluid has low pour point and a pumping limit of -30°C (-22°F)

Thermal fluid specialist Global Heat Transfer stocks and delivers a wide range of premium quality heat transfer fluids, including Marlotherm® LH. The company also provides the complete solution for global thermal fluid supply and management.

If properly maintained and routinely tested, heat transfer fluids will provide good service over extended periods.

Engineers should follow a preventative maintenance programme that includes regular sampling to monitor fluid condition. Engineers should take the sample when the system is hot, closed and circulating to get an accurate representation of the fluid inside the system. Global Heat Transfer provides a complete thermal fluid analysis service to analyse fluid samples, track degradation and offer maintenance support.

For more extensive support, manufacturers should consider Global Heat Transfer’s Thermocare programme, a comprehensive maintenance strategy that includes regular sampling and systems checks as well as engineering services.

Application

Globaltherm® 55 is a synthetic heat transfer fluid designed for use in moderate temperature, non-pressurised or low pressure indirect heating systems.

The thermal fluid is designed to provide reliable, consistent heat transfer performance over a long time in a range of applications at recommended bulk temperatures of up to 300 °C (570 °F).  Globaltherm® 55 is recommended for use in industrial applications such as asphalt (bitumen), biomass, cement, gas to liquid, oil & gas, production of bio alcohol and biodiesel, hot mix asphalt, natural gas purification, polymer and plastic and waste heat recovery.

About Globaltherm® 55

Globaltherm® 55 is a synthetic thermal fluid with excellent pumpability (-28 °C [-18.4 °F]), when compared to other heat transfer fluids, allowing the heat transfer system to start up quickly and easily.

  • Globaltherm® 55 is used for applications operating from -28 °C (-18.4 °F) to 300 °C (570 °F). It’s broad temperature range means it can be used for both heating and cooling.

  • Globaltherm® 55 can offer long life, reliable, cost-effective performance continuously at 300 °C (570 °F) if required by the application, meaning customers don’t need to over specify their fluids.

  • The fluid is designed to be resistant to oxidation and help manufacturers to extend fluid lifespan.

All heat transfer fluids degrade over time, but this is accelerated at high temperatures. In fact, for every 10°C increase in temperature, the lifespan of a thermal fluid decreases by half. Therefore, if you require high temperature heat transfer, you need a fluid with excellent thermal stability.

High temperature thermal fluids typically have a high boiling point and low vapour pressure to avoid unwanted vaporisation. They also have a high flash point and high fire point to minimise fire risk and ensure the safety of staff working in the facility.

We offer a wide range of heat transfer fluids with different operating temperature ranges because we understand that every industrial process has specific temperature requirements. Our liquid phase thermal oils are suitable for systems operating at 15°C to 400°C and our vapour phase heat transfer fluids can operate at 257°C to 400°C.

Your choice of fluid will depend on your application. Identify the temperature range you need it to operate at, whether it will be used in an open or closed heat transfer system and the safety requirements.

Manufacturers should also consider factors such as operating temperature range, thermal stability and the chemical composition of the thermal fluid. They should also decide whether to use a mineral or synthetic heat transfer fluid.

If you need a heat transfer fluid that meets the demands of liquid phase and vapour phase systems, consider Globaltherm ® Omnitech.

You may also want to consider our most popular thermal oil, Globaltherm ® Syntec, which uses hydrogenated terphenyls chemistry and is suitable for a wide range of applications.

Synthetic thermal fluids are often specifically formulated for applications demanding high operating temperatures for long periods of time.

These synthetic fluids are formulated using specific compounds, such as silicone-based or glycol-based thermal fluids. Synthetic fluids, such as Globaltherm® Syntec are engineered to operate at high temperatures and have specific heat transfer properties, including thermal stability and resistance to degradation.

Synthetic heat transfer fluids typically offer a range of beneficial properties, including:

  • Excellent thermal stability that enables fluids to operate effectively at both extremely high and sub-zero temperatures
  • A wider operating temperature range for use in a variety of applications for prolonged periods
  • Heat transfer efficiency at higher temperatures, making it more productive in demanding applications

We can provide advice on selecting the correct synthetic fluid for your application. Speak to one of our experts about heat transfer fluid choice.
