Stone firm gains safety accreditation
Staffordshire based thermal fluid specialist Global Heat Transfer has been awarded accreditation from safecontractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety. safecontractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme, which recognises very high standards in health and safety management among UK contractors.
Global Heat Transfer provides a comprehensive range of services for manufacturers using heat transfer in their production process, including sampling, analysis and fluid delivery, as well as system drain down, cleaning and waste management. The company also specialises in on-site maintenance, system design and installation. It works with a wide range of clients from industries as diverse as marine, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, solar, manufacturing, print and food processing.
The company’s request for safecontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard and reflects a commitment to safety across a variety of sectors. safecontractor accreditation will also enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts.
“Achieving safecontractor accreditation is testimony to our commitment to protecting people and assets, onsite and offsite”, explained Clive Jones, managing director at Global Heat Transfer. “Procedures and good overall site management as prescribed by safecontractor guidelines represent the first line of defence and the basis of any health and safety policy”, Jones concluded.
safecontractor is applicable to most sectors, although it is particularly relevant to industrial manufacturers, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, , chemical, oil & gas, plastics and styrene, solar & biomass and marine & off-shore sectors, all of which are important users of contracted services.
“Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place,” enthused John Kinge, technical director of safecontractor.
“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Global Heat Transfer has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”
Under the safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Companies that meet the high standards are included in a database accessible to registered users only via a website. This way, client-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database and vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site.
Over one hundred and seventy major nationwide businesses from several key sectors have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
