The ProblemThe thermal fluid in the heat transfer system was showing evidence of low flash point when the thermal fluid was routinely tested in line with regulations as part of the Thermocare® contract.
What Emerald Materials wanted to achieveEmerald Materials wanted to ensure their personnel were safe, systems complied with regulations and production goals were achieved.
The Global Heat Transfer solutionThe Thermocare® lifecycle maintenance agreement includes routine and representative samples which are drawn while the system is operating at normal temperature and without interruption to production. When the sample results show that the fluid condition has changed we apply the appropriate intervention. In this particular case the flash point of the thermal fluid was reduced due to the increase in formation of light ends. Our light ends removal system was deployed (at no extra cost) to safely remove the light ends in order to increase the flash point and restore system safety. Finally, we added more thermal fluid to the system (after the light ends were removed) so that the system had the correct amount of fluid for efficient operation. The cost of the additional fluid is also included in the Thermocare® contract.
ImpactSite safety and productivity is improved and the customer is confident that they comply with regulations.
